Frases de exemplo do curso

Cada frase vem das listas de palavras ou dos temas de gramática deste curso. A forma do verbo está marcada e por baixo indica-se o tempo e a pessoa.

    eaten — past participle

  • Do not call at eight — we will be eating.Não telefones às oito, estaremos a comer.

Mais frases de exemplo

  • Have you ever eaten barnacles?Já alguma vez comeste percebes?

  • Don't eat all the cherries before the guests arrive!Não comas as cerejas todas antes de os convidados chegarem!

Erros típicos de quem fala português

  • Errado What you ate at your aunt's?

Certo What did you eat at your aunt's?

«O que comeste?» é só pronome interrogativo e verbo. Em inglês, no passado, a pergunta precisa de did, e o verbo volta ao infinitivo: did you eat.

  • Errado My nephew always eats chips with the hands.

Certo My nephew always eats chips with his hands.

Para partes do corpo o português usa o artigo («com as mãos»). Em inglês usa-se o possessivo: with his hands, wash your hands.

  • Errado Snails? No, I don't eat that, it's exquisite.

Certo Snails? No, I don't eat that, it's weird.

    «Esquisito» é estranho, mas exquisite é «requintado», «delicioso» — o contrário do que se quer dizer.

A armadilha típica

Errado Do not call at eight — we will eat.

Certo Do not call at eight — we will be eating.

Esta forma raramente se constrói mal e quase sempre se esquece. I will work at nine diz que às nove começo; I will be working at nine diz que às nove já lá estou. E a pergunta muda de natureza: Will you use the car? lê-se como um pedido, a forma contínua não.

O Future Progressive

Combinações de palavras frequentes
