Basic words: numbers, pronouns, verbs
Pronouns and question words, numbers and time, basic verbs and adjectives, small words and the words for place.
What holds these lists together
These lists belong to no area, which means they belong to all of them. A question word like nerede, a number, a var or yok turn up in every conversation, so each word here repays the effort most. Turkish makes two things easy: the numbers are completely regular, with no “eleven” or “twelve” — on bir is “ten one” — and the verbs have almost no exceptions. What is new are the place words: üst, alt, yan and arka are nouns and take endings, so masanın üstünde means literally “at the table’s top”. If you do not know where to start, start here.
For example: ben (I), sıfır (zero), olmak (to be, to become), renk (colour), büyük (big, large), ve (and)
