From these 46 words, as many per round as you like — up to all of them: first what is due today, then new ones. First you choose, then you fill the gap, then you write it yourself. Mistakes come back again shortly.

More about this list

The list for an application, and near the end the question every interview asks: quelles sont vos faiblesses ? The word is worth opening. Faible is Latin flebilis, « to be wept over », from flere, to weep — so a weakness in French is at the root something lamentable rather than something small. English borrowed the French word twice and kept two different sizes of it. « Feeble » came from the learned form and stayed serious: a feeble excuse, a feeble grip. « Foible » is the old French spelling foible taken as a noun, and it means the opposite in scale — a small, forgivable, almost endearing fault. French la faiblesse sits between the two, which is exactly why neither English word translates it on its own.
