My grandmother makes the best chocolate cake in the world.
English weather uses “it is”. French makes the weather with faire: il fait chaud, il fait beau, il fait nuit. Il est chaud is about a person or a thing being hot.
“I had my car repaired” cannot be copied word for word. When someone else does the job for you, French uses faire + infinitive: je me suis fait couper les cheveux, j’ai fait réparer la voiture.
Wrong Il est froid aujourd’hui.
Right Il fait froid aujourd’hui.
The weather is built with être, because English says «it *is* cold»: Il est froid. That means he is cold — a person, or a thing that feels cold to the touch. The weather takes faire: Il fait froid. The same habit puts avoir on a meal, where French wants prendre.
